Automation
Shipment tracking from Excel
A Python script that reads tracking numbers from Excel, looks up shipment status on Chilexpress through a browser and collects the results in a CSV file.
Patrich's role: Author of the script.
Problem and context
Manually checking the status of many shipments, one by one, on the Chilexpress site is a repetitive, time-consuming task.
Audience
Someone managing a volume of shipments who needs their status without opening each one manually.
Solution
A script (chx.py) reads tracking numbers from an Excel file with pandas, uses Selenium with Firefox to look up each shipment on the Chilexpress site, and writes the consolidated results to a CSV.
Implemented scope
- Reads tracking numbers from ordenes_1.xlsx (LABEL column) with pandas
- Automated browser lookup (Selenium/Firefox) of each shipment's status
- Extracts order number, date, time and status
- Writes consolidated results to SELLERS1.csv
How I built it
No evidence of AI assistance was observed in this code.
Process and decisions
Consolidating a repetitive, manual lookup into a batch flow, using the same web interface a person would (no documented public API is used here).
Technologies
PythonpandasSelenium
Lessons learned
XPath selectors are tied to the site and can break with design changes. Per-shipment errors are ignored in the reviewed version: a failed lookup can reuse values from the previous shipment. No explicit browser close was observed at the end. Before a public demo, per-shipment error handling and synthetic data would be needed.
